Carnelian aims to introduce modular video to take a giant step towards democratizing the production of high quality video. Lower costs, ease of use and shorter lead times will make quality video production and publication accessible to small companies, private enterprises, and individuals.

Competition in this area consists mostly of tools offering one or two of Carnelian's three main elements at either higher cost, at longer lead times or with poor usability. Products active in the competing realm include MotionBox, iMovie and Virage.
