Tremendous amounts of knowledge are shared everyday through oral presentations held in company seminars, international organization meetings, conferences and universities. However, the biggest part of such an invaluable asset is irremediably lost in absence of effective technologies for knowledge capture, extraction and access. Even after the most brilliant presentation, all it remains is usually some personal notes and some slide printouts.

Klewel has the best solution for this problem, an effective combination of hardware and software capable of performing, without human intervention, the three key tasks necessary for knowledge capitalization:

* Multimedia capture:
Klewel records the whole information delivered during a presentation without requiring any effort to the speaker and by simply pressing a button. The capture infrastructure is non-intrusive. Audio channels, videos streams and captured slides are all synchronised and timestamped.

* Knowledge extraction:
Klewel distillates automatically the core messages of the speaker from data as raw as audio and video streams thanks to fast indexing technologies developed at IDIAP Research Institute.

* Interactive web access:
Klewel makes the knowledge of the speakers available to anybody through natural language queries as simple as those that everybody uses to find web pages with Google.

The Klewel solution has already found its way through one of the most important organizers of scientific conferences in the world, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), and another prestigious institution joined the group of our clients: the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). For both institutions, knowledge is a core resource and the Klewel solution is warmly welcome:

“Very impressive. Well done”, J. B., Regional Communication Adviser, UNICEF.

“This is wonderful. The range of offering: slides, audio, etc is terrific”, M. F., Communication Officer, UNICEF.

"As the chair of the Digital Media Capture Committee for the Association for Computing Machinery, I was charged with finding a group to work with to prototype a system for capturing the lectures and presentations given at ACM's many conferences. We looked at many systems and many approaches and settled on the system by Klewel because of the unique capabilities it offers in terms of capturing not only the speaker, but also the slides -- including any video or animation on those slides. This is unique amongst all of the approaches currently being offered, and is very important for an association such as ACM where our "slides" might include live demonstrations of software or computing systems which are critical to the presentation. Our collaboration with Klewel has been excellent -- our suggestions have been carefully considered and have often been implemented in the course of normal software upgrades. We are extremely excited about this technology and the directions Klewel is making in commercializing it." John "Scooter" Morris, Ph.D., Executive Director, Resource for Biocomputing, Visualization, and Informatics, University of California, San Francisco.
