Since the early days of computing, there have been two visions that have been opposing each other. The vision of Openness and Generativity, where the user is in control, can tinker with both hardware and software in order to invent new things, and the vision of Control, where the vendors decide what can be done with their "solutions". This tendency is gaining steam again with a new generation of connected appliances. Now that the whole world is getting connected, and computing is used by more people, the ease of use brought by the Control side may be more appealing to users, while the Open side is closer to the interest of users particularly when it comes to their freedom.
In this session, we'll see how Mozilla is working to make sure that users have the ability to innovate while retaining the simplicity, security and ease of use needed by most users. We will discuss how Open Source, open collaboration, open standards and open innovation are used together in order to produce powerful software and innovative platforms meant to serve Internet users.
