Dr. Sirkka Heinonen (b. 1953 Helsinki, married, three children) works as Chief Research Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and as Docent in Futures Research. Her expertise is concerned with information society, sustainable development, telepresence, philosophy of technology, technology and lifestyle, futures studies, technology foresight, and the future of cities. Currently she's engaged in developing foresight activities at VTT and heads the Technology Futures Forum (www.vtt.fi/tff). She is in charge of the futures-oriented part of VTT's SOMED project (Social media in the crossroads of physical, digital and virtual worlds).
